Decibel’s Top 5 Grindcore Logos
July 24, 2017 Chris Dick
There’s nothing cooler than a logo, a mark, an emblem. From extreme music’s inception, artists–thrash metal, grindcore, death metal, doom metal, black metal, etc.–have placed a heavy weight on their logos. Some are immediately recognizable (like Metallica, Death, Morbid Angel, Napalm Death, Cathedral), some aren’t so cleverly designed. Over the years, Decibel has top-listed logos for our most favorite of extremely extreme genres. Today, we dissect and pontificate on the Top 5 Grindcore Logos. Music isn’t considered as part of the findings, as that would unfairly settle the list. So, find out who tops our list. And argue about it.
VOICES FROM THE UK UNDERGROUND: OBLIVIONIZED on booking shows and saying yes to DIY misanthropy
June 11, 2012 Jonathan Horsley
Sitting in on rehearsals when London (-ish) death-grind crew Oblivionized first started it was kind of hard to see where they were going. Powered by former drummer Jonathan Rushforth’s hyper beats, with guitarist Sammy Urwin riffing under the creative direction of vocalist Zac Broughton, it was technical death metal at a time when technical death…
WIN STUFF: Celebrate 25 years of Earache by winning a bunch of swag!
January 13, 2012 Jonathan Horsley
Earache records is officially 25 years young this year. While it was the vinyl-only release of The Accüsed’s The Return of Martha Splatterhead that marked the label’s debut, it was the release of Napalm Death’s inconic/incendiary/etc debut, ‘87’s Scum, that started an uncanny hot-streak for the label, one which saw them go on to bogart…
Chris Barnes: Come Get Your Car!!
November 16, 2011 Chris Dick
You know, with all the hoopla over Scion, an imprint of Toyota (gasp!), sponsoring music festivals, funding and pressing free CDs, and generally giving workaday bands (like Immolation, Wormrot, Enslaved) a chance to stick their head out of the boiling financial cauldron that is the music industry, it’s a wonder this commercial for Park Auto…
Never get off the van: Wormrot check-in from UK tour with Evisorax
September 12, 2011 Jonathan Horsley
Singapore grind trio Wormrot’s sophomore UK tour Evisorax was the sort of faceripper that had the usual confederacy of punk and metal extremists out in force, complete with dogs on strings, and the usual anarcho-patched collective. The Deciblog could only witness first-hand the fireworks-indoors intensity of tour finale in London, but enlisted band manager Azean…
Scion Rock Fest 2011 – Unannounced Bands, uh Announced!
January 20, 2011 Chris Dick
Scion A/V announced the partial line-up for the 2011 Scion Rock Fest. It was ridiculous! But it just got even more ridiculous! So much so, Scion A/V proposed to fly Decibot from his digital hovel to Pomona, CA to witness the awesomeness, but Decibot declined because the new Rev Theory album is imminent. OK, so…
Scion Rock Fest 2011 – Line-up Announced
January 14, 2011 Chris Dick
Scion A/V just announced the line-up for the 2011 Scion Rock Fest. Uh, it’s ridiculous! Morbid Angel, Obituary, Death Angel, Municipal Waste, Agalloch, Integrity, Bastard Noise… Well, you can just read the handbill for the rest. This looks to be an awesome ear-destroying fest. And it’s fucking free (if you RSVP)! Also, Decibel are co-sponsors….
