Where they from?
New Brunswick, New Jersey. My friend recently said that every hardcore band is from New Jersey, whether they know it or not. This very true as hardcore and grind require a certain depressed/disillusioned mindset that only the armpit of America can truly provide. Just ask Kevin Smith or the Dillinger Escape Plan.
Why the hype?
The big headline here is that I wouldn’t consider Blemish to be a PURE GRIND band, per se. They are more in line with the current wave of Maggot Stomp Morticiancore than they are with let’s say an Insect Warfare or a Nasum. But it’s 2023 and it’s time to expand our horizons! (Also, I couldn’t find any good legitimate grind bands to write about this week). There are slams here and more slams and there’s even a slam during the second song that accented by that creepy sounding synth xylophone. I mean, how can you not fall in love with a band that uses one of those?
Latest Release?
Omnipresence out now on Frozen Screams Imprint. This isn’t so much an album as it is a document on what it’s like to live in the Garden State in the year of 2023. There are sardonic lyrics, harsh noise interludes, the occasional blast beat and that goddamn slam with the xylophone (I can’t get enough of it).
