The story of New England metallic hardcore-turned-heavy rock risk-takers Cave In is one filled with both momentous highs and tragic lows. The release of game changers Until Your Heart Stops (1998) and Jupiter (2000) saw the quartet’s rapid ascent to major label support, leading to a decades-long career. Though questions loomed regarding the future of the band after the tragic loss of bassist Caleb Scofield in 2018 and the subsequent release of the line-up’s final recorded material on 2019’s Final Transmission, the band has returned from the brink with their latest opus, Heavy Pendulum. Recruiting Nate Newton (Converge/Old Man Gloom) to fill bass and back-up vocal duties and finding a new home at Relapse Records, Cave In begins a bright new chapter with one of 2022’s best releases, bar none. This massive double LP on “Brown with Heavy Bone White Splatter”-colored vinyl is housed in a beautiful gatefold jacket featuring cover art by renowned Welsh illustrator Ricky Beckett (Mastodon, Killswitch Engage) and paired with an impressive 12-page insert. Though the album may be monumental, this color variant is limited to just 200 units worldwide and is sure to sell out fast.
