Our heroes’ fragilities are something we don’t really think about, but, as we get older, all of our bodies fail and we are left to pick up the pieces. Sadly, such a reality has hit living legend and Peaceville Records founder Paul “Hammy” Halmshaw in this time of great strife.
“After a life in music I became seriously ill in lockdown,” Hammy reveals in a JustGiving crowdfunding campaign. “I found out I had hereditary dilated cardiomyopathy which is terminal.” Having been left disabled in the wake of such an illness, Hammy is now unable to use the stairs and is raising money to convert his two-flat into a single story home, citing the need for a new bathroom and bedroom to make his new life easier.
Having given the world such legendary acts as Autopsy, Darkthrone, Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride and more (the list is figuratively endless), Hammy has provided us with endless hours of entertainment and what are likely to be lifetime fandoms. Now we are in a position to give Hammy something in return.
