It’s difficult to write about Cauldron Black Ram without at least mentioning Aussie death/doom heroes — and perpetual Decibel Top 40 charters — Mournful Congregation, so let’s get that out of the way. Featuring a pair of current Mournful members, (including MG mastermind Damon Good on guitar and vocals) as well as ex-drummer Denny Blake, Cauldron Black Ram maintain the “low” part of the Mournful formula, but often ditch the “slow” in favor of mid-tempo black and death metal hammering. The band’s latest — and second for U.S. underground institution 20 Buck Spin — Slaver drops on Friday (May 22), but Decibel is proud to present the LP streaming the seas of your broadband connection in full right fucking now.
“Slaver encapsulates a darkening age, either from the tumultuous past or possible future,” the band tells Decibel. “It is the manifestation of man’s fears, lusts and personal litanies unbound and enforced with deceit, fire and the sword. This is the soundtrack to such an un-civilization.”
