It’s been six years since Swedish black metal phenoms Perverticon issued an album. That changes January 25th, when Perverticon and German indie Iron Bonehead team up to release Wounds of Divinity. In many respects, Wounds of Divinity isn’t just the follow-up to Extinguishing the Flame of Life, but rather something on its own, a creature not of the same cloth as it were. See, Perverticon have upped all antes — of their own making — on Wounds of Divinity. Necrosadistic Elite and Uncleanest Invictus’ riffs are imbued with more evil, more malice, while not forsaking songcraft. And Omnicremationist Supreme’s drums summon the demons of the dark with every strike, every hit is a clarion call to war against Abrahamic religions the world over.
Musically, Perverticon pull more from the periods ’90s than from recent innovations to the genre. If Dawn, Dissection, Marduk, and Thy Primordial were legends in the mid- to late-’90s, they’re gods now, venerated throughout Wounds of Divinity. Say the band in a recent interview (HERE) of what stokes the very fires of inspiration: “Probably pretty much what you would expect after hearing it, a lot of ’90s Norwegian music such as Mayhem, Darkthrone and Gorgoroth. Also Deathspell Omega, Sorhin, Antaeus, Funeral Mist and Malign. Dissection to some extent, even if that might not be as prominent. As for newer releases there have been a lot of interesting music coming from Poland over the course of the last few years, e.g. Mgla, Kriegsmaschine and Medico Peste.”
