Video Premiere: Runescarred – ‘Poison Oasis’

Austin-based progressive metal troupe Runescarred—formed from the ashes of the severely-underrated Dead Earth Politics—are rolling out new album The Distant Infinite next month and to prepare, they’ve shared a video for new song “Poison Oasis.” The record’s penultimate track, “Poison Oasis” is less aggressive and more focused on the technical side of the music.

Singer Ven Scott is still present in the song, though not in the video, which features the band’s guitarists, Tim Discoll and Skunk Manhattan, and bassist Josh Robins. Scott’s clean vocals draw from classic heavy metal, which matches the sharp, riff-driven core of the song.

“This song absolutely highlights the strong work of Tim, Skunk and Josh,” Scott relays to Decibel. “Being our most proggy, time-bending tune I really wanted a video that focused on strings, and here you have it! Even I ignore the vocals and listen to and watch the finger work extravaganza.”

The Distant Infinite is out on February 21 via the band.
