Formalist exist in the most miserable, droning end of sludge metal. On their new album No One Will Shine Anymore, the quartet play at a crawl as pained screams fly from the mouth of vocalist Ferdinando Marchisio. Feedback is used not as a weapon, but as another layer to the music.
On No One Will Shine Anymore, Formalist adopt a minimalist approach to playing. Percussion is slow and each guitar note sounds as if it was chosen with great care, yet Formalist fill the space in each of the three lengthy tracks.
No One Will Shine Anymore is streaming in full below. It will see joint release via Third I Rex, Wooaaargh and Toten Schwan on March 16.
