Early ’90s Icelandic Death Metal Insanity

Friday, December 19th, 2008

OK, lots of out of print CDs sell for big bucks (~$400 range) on eBay these days, but check out these (here and here) listings, by seller thergothon72, for Sororicide’s The Entity.

We’re in elephant bucks land here, folks. $2,800.00 for the first listing and $3,574.50 for the second (private for you CEO types) is astronomically high for an admittedly rare, if average, CD. The dude has $3,300.00 and $4,289.40 for Buy It Now! But he’s offering free shipping. What a deal!

Uh, for those prices you could fly to Iceland, hire the band for a private gig, a local model to hang on you, stock up on Brennivin, barf up some Hákarl, and have a grand old fucking time in/out of the geothermal springs. The Icelandic Kronur is at an all-time low against the dollar ($1 U.S. = 122.080 ISK).

So, uh, anyway here’s Sororicide’s MySpace.

Stryper Strips…Uh, Oops

Stripper Music

When I was a wee lad I thought Stryper were hot. In early photos (check out Robert Sweet on the left!) they looked like Lita Ford (or Lorraine Lewis in the late ’80s). I mean blonde, blue-eyed, and heavily salon-ed. Easy infatuation for a pre-teen, no? Except for the ugly brunettes. But then I might’ve seen this photo. From that point on I made damned sure chicks were chicks and not dicks that look like chicks. Basically, if they weren’t Susanna Hoffs or Belinda Carlisle they were dudes. (more…)

eBay Item I Am Glad I Did Not Win Vol. 3

So much for Black Friday deals on True Norwegian Black Metal. This original Posercorpse pressing of Mayhem’s debut EP, Deathcrush (autographed by the late, caped crusader Euronymous), closed out at $1,000 over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Oh well, that’s the price you pay for tr00, kvlt, Hello Kitty-colored glory.

Stimulate Me More Mr. Government

Money Money Money

If a second economic stimulus check (sorry rest of worlders) arrives before Christmas, chances are you’ll use it to A) get a subscription to Decibel B) pay off debt C) put it into savings D) ‘make it rain’ at a local strip joint or E) beef up your coveted black metal collection. Well, I think it’s possible to combine A with E or A with C, but Americans don’t usually split resources. We’re cowboys. Or mavericks. It’s all or nothing, baby! So, if Congress does issue another do-little check, E is probably the best option. It’ll stimulate (option D should accomplish a similar feat, but it’s one-way shopping) the economy and give you kult points. When all is said and done, what’s more important than having a killer collection of ultra rare, unreasonably expensive metal (probably black metal) vinyl?

So, when you’re fully stimulated head to eBay. It’s truer than all of Norway.

This Bolivian seller clearly has our collector ticks in mind.

1. Burzum – Burzum (DSP) $600 Buy It Now
2. Burzum – Det Som Engang Var (Misanthropy) $300 Buy It Now
3. Burzum – Hvis Lyset Tar Oss (Misanthropy) $250 Buy It Now
4. Burzum – Hlidskjalf (Misanthropy) $200 Buy It Now
5. Burzum – Daudi Baldrs (Misanthropy) $150 Buy It Now

Or, if you’re edging a little past black metal curious and want a quantum leap to mega-kult status, you can plunk down that refund (plus a little more) to get this guy’s 150-piece kollection.

Helga’s Head…Found!

Niiiice

Here at Decibel, we loves Repulsion. So much so in issue #46, August 2008 we inducted Repulsion’s sole album, the legendary, influential, and inimitable Horrified, into Decibel’s vaunted Hall of Fame. The Flint, Michigan natives inspired many, but its post-Horrified work is often overlooked.

Well, girls, this sad soul is selling 1991’s Rebirth demo on eBay. At press time, there’s only 2 bids going for a smashing $1.29. Which is a steal of a deal.

You know, “Excruciation” and “Helga (Lost Her Head)” were featured on the purple-colored Excruciation 7″ for the Relapse label. That’s for sale, too. On eBay, of course. For $9.99.

We loves Repulsion. So should you.

A++++ Great Seller! Would eat brains again!

Here’s a close-up of a 10″ x 18″ pencil study artist Vincent Locke made while working on the album art for Cannibal Corpse’s first record Eaten Back to Life. As revealed in Decibel #44, when Tomb of the Mutilated was enshrined in the dB Hall of Fame and our man Chris Dick did an accompanying Q & A with the artist about his technique, Locke frequently made a few sketches to solicit input from the band before starting the final art. The art for Eaten Back to Life is actually quite tame in comparison to Locke’s later pieces for Cannibal Corpse, which means you can view Locke’s current listing on eBay (starting price: $200) without fear. For more gruesome, possibly NSFW work fun, Locke is also selling Cannibal Corpse-related art through his own site, including the cover of 2003’s Worm Infested EP and the cover of 2004’s The Wretched Spawn.

Nothing quite like asking Euronymous for Mayhem’s Pure Fucking Armageddon demo and getting the, um, Checker Patrol demo as a “bonus.” Either way, $510.00 for a 22-year-old Panasonic cassette complete with Xeroxed cover sounds totally reasonable to me.
