Where nobody gives a flying fuck about In Rainbows
This is my third year of watching Albert run around the office with printouts of the writers’ Top 40 lists, agonizing over what belongs where in the Dechelon and why. He puts what could be considered an unhealthy deal of thought and care into assembling this thing, but fuck all that. My favorite part is when he finally shows me his tentative Top 40, which he’s holding like the missing Grail Diary pages in Last Crusade, and I get to say shit like, “Oh, so Rosetta are thirteen albums better than Trap Them. SUPER,” loud enough to deeply annoy the Rosetta fans sitting beside me. (My second favorite part is making fun of the writers’ “left-field” choices, particularly the ones best fit for Decibot consumption.) All of which is, obviously, the sort of thing you’ll be doing as soon as you finish reading this. I don’t think this year’s slate will be remotely embarrassing five years down the road, and looking back to the 2005 list, I can still get behind everything (except number 6 and 25; yikes). So, on your marks, get set, bitch. It’s the Top 40 Records of 2007.
