Right about now, all your favorite (and most-hated!) Decibel writers are hustling to get their year-end lists together for the Big Man In Charge. But I’d like to take an opportunity to share with you my favorite video of the year. It eclipses “genre,” so don’t go bitching about how it’s not metal. Blow me—this shit’s extremely extreme, and that’s how we roll over here. Nick Cave is one of the most charismatic fuckers to walk the earth, and since his band Grinderman released Grinderman 2 in September, this writer’s junk has been bouncing in sacrilegious ways. I’ve been waiting for something—anything—to topple the video for “Heathen Child” from the top spot on my mental list of things that make me want to get naked and feral in the year 2010, and so far, nothing has come close. You’ll see why.
Cave and his compadres are wearing Roman soldier costumes. They shoot lazers from their eyes and hands. There’s a hot, naked chick in a bathtub full of what looks like skim milk. Her boobs make an appearance. Terrified children. A dog conducting an orchestra. A giant dude whose eyeballs can do that weird bulgy thing. Male ass cheeks. An atomic fart. And Nick Cave as Krishna.
