Warbringer Tour Diary

Hello all! Kevill here, writing the first blog I’ve ever done for, well, anything. I’m not much of a blogger/record keeper kinda guy, I never take photos of anything or write in a journal, any of that. But here I get to report all the happenings on our first ever USA headlining tour with Lazarus A.D., Landmine Marathon, and Diamond Plate.
So far it is only Day 2 in Anaheim, and I’ve been off the road too long to really be “in the zone” yet. We have been off the road, doing only some occasional one-off shows since the Nevermore tour that ended last November, so I’m pretty sure I’ve gotten soft. Hell, I’m still in southern California, so I don’t even feel like I’m on tour yet. That feeling will only kick in when I have to do a long-ass drive across the desert, then I’ll be able to get into the mentality. Get some good highway music going. Rock. That’ll be within the next couple days for sure, but for now it still feels like home.

The tour package seems like cool guys—well, scratch that, I know almost all of these dudes. Diamond Plate came out to our first tour when we played with Exodus in February 2008 at the Pearl Room in Mokena, Illinois. We’ve been seeing them around ever since. We spent 2 weeks of the Vader tour in late 2009 with Lazarus A.D., and we have seen them around since. And we met a few of the Landmine Marathon guys at previous Arizona shows, and I saw all of them at a Toxic Holocaust gig about a month ago in our neck of the woods. So very little “gettin’ to know everybody”, as it’s almost all familiar faces. Everyone seems cool so far.

We rehearsed a little—probably not enough—but it’ll just take a few gigs to get us into proper fighting shape. We are never quite at our best at the beginning. We need to get hardened-up for about a week and then we hit our stride. That’s how it’s always been for us, at least. We had a warm-up show in Escondido last Saturday night (which was a rager), and one proper tour show so far: a Monday night at the Key Club in Hollywood. I was kinda nervous about it to be honest. The LA show is an important one, and Monday’s usually a bad night, and it looks really bad on us if nobody’s there at a higher profile place like that. Also, we still really don’t know what to expect from this tour, as we’ve never headlined the states before. Fortunately, I can say that we had a damn fine turnout, and we’re really thankful for the strong support from the LA metal heads. A lot of people came, had fun, and raged like wild beasts. It put me in awesomely high spirits.

Tonight is the Chain Reaction in Anaheim—a place we have played 3 or 4 times, and have totally destroyed 5 or 6 times. Yes, enough rage to be mathematically impossible. Our cruisers can’t repel firepower of that magnitude! It’s a trap!

More news as things get underway. ‘til next week, cheers!
