For Those About to Squawk: Waldo's Pecks of the Week II

Every Friday, Waldo the African Grey Parrot, frontbird of thrash-grind immortals Hatebeak, will get you caught up on the week’s latest “extreme” releases. Waldo here. There’s not really much to “crow” about this week in the way of new releases. In fact, it seems like most labels aren’t really doing much this week, but first up we have Affiance with their first full-length, No Secret Revealed, on Bullet Tooth. This release is repulsive mall metal garbage. Not far removed from Avenged Sevenfold or Killswitch Engage; Maiden-like harmonies, with sung-into-screamy vocals. If you are trying to pick up some underage snapper, blast this from your boom box while standing outside your local Hot Topic.

Squawk!

This week, Brooklyn’s King’s Destroy release And the Rest Will Surely Perish on Maple Forum. This band is a literal who’s-who of the New York underground stoner doom scene. Deep, heavy and oh-so-Sabbath-y stoner riffs plod along predictably. The most surprising aspect is how much the singer actually sounds like Ozzy. If you want more from the Sab 4 and won’t settle for live bootlegs, pick this up.

Hallelujah, what can I say about Living Sacrifice’s The Infinite Order? This is on Solid State, so you know where this is headed. Christian “metal,” chugs, breakdowns and screaming vocals all in the name of our lord and savior. This isn’t fit to line my cage. More akin to Sepultura’s Roots than anything else, but I’m sure these guys would list Underoath as a major influence. They even have a song titled “In Christ.” This sucks ass, I’d rather peck my reflection in the mirror all day long than hear this.
