Doomsters Khemmis Unveil ‘Three Gates’ & Inch Closer to Greatness

Last year, Denver-based quartet Khemmis came out of nowhere (well, Denver, to be fair) to deliver one of the best debut albums of 2015. Absolution, released via 20 Buck Spin, cracked Decibel's Top 10 Albums of the Year coming it at #9. What’s more, LP closer “The Bereaved” was—to my ears anyway—the single best metal song of 2015.

Just a year later the doomsters reappear with Hunted and a remarkably strong case for ALBUM OF THE FUCKING YEAR. You’ll be able to judge for yourself when the five-track Hunted is released on October 21, again through 20 Buck Spin. You won’t have to wait that long to hear the new LP track “Three Gates,” however, as we’ve got it right here. OK, you’ll need to wait through the time it takes to read guitarist Ben Hutcherson’s explanation of the song below.

“‘Three Gates’ is the fastest song on the new album. It allowed us to channel our love of Motörhead and High on Fire. [Guitarist/vocalist] Phil [Pendergast] and I knew we wanted heavy vocals for the verses and that death growls wouldn’t work. Enter Grant Netzorg, our friend from [Denver band] In the Company of Serpents, whose vocals were perfect for the song. The lyrics detail the terror of being trapped in another person’s idyllic life, a perfect hell.”
