If you’re ever in Canada, say the name ‘Golers’ at any downtrodden watering hole and watch dudes fired up on discount cases of Old Vienna hold their brewski aloft in celebratory salute (after which you can guarantee you’ve just made a sketchy, greasy friend for life). On the other hand, having people react to the name by holding their noses in mock disgust at the “Inbred Militia’s” rough-hewn brand of crossover/thrash and hardcore punk and in not-so-mock disgust at olfactory assault actually emanating from the quartet are also perfectly viable responses as well.
Since the late-90s, the Vancouver-based miscreants have been a mainstay on the Canadian metal scene, becoming the sort of homegrown entity that people love to love as much as they love to hate. The rest of the world has taken notice as the band has toured and played with the likes of Toxic Holocaust, Kreator, the Accused, Napalm Death, Suicidal Tendencies, the Dayglo Abortions and Destruction. Additionally, I think one of the dudes used to be in Grip Inc. with Dave Lombardo and Waldemar Sorychta.
Last year saw the release of their fourth album, In ‘n’ Outlaws, their most accomplished work yet. Now, the band’s cult classic from 1999, South Mountain Style is being re-issued for your listening displeasure with an extensive tour across the Motherland kicking off next week. Says vocalist/guitarist, Chainsaw Charlie Goler (a.k.a. Walter Mason), “South Mountain Style…where the hillbilly hellride began!! It will make you sqeal like a pig and beg for more!!!! We’re proud to be re-releasing our first album on digital format prior to our full Canadian tour this month. This album started it all for us and we hope you enjoy it.
