Doombringers Lycus Swallow Some Sun on “Solar Chamber”

Oakland funeral doom quartet Lycus did some damage on our Top 40 Albums of 2013 list with debut Tempest, and so expectations are sky-high (at least in this building) for sophomore effort Chasms. The album consists of four epic, mournful, sometimes cello-laden tracks, and we’re pleased to bring you the first of them in the form of “Solar Chamber.”

“Serving as one of the more sonically diverse songs on the album, ‘Solar Chamber’ was inspired by the unavoidable horrors of this world revealed by the sun,” says drummer Trevor DeSchryver. “It is based on the notion that one may find serenity and solace in the darkness of night, as opposed to the crippling fear and anxiety brought on by the oppressive light of day.”
