When I interviewed Laethora guitarist Niklas Sundin in 2007, he said, “We don’t look very metal or mean, so it’d just be silly if we were to pose with blood, entrails and worn-out Autopsy shirts.” He’s right. Laethora, with the exception of the Godzilla-sized vox of frontman Jonatan Nordenstam, don’t look metal—short hair alert!—or mean—again, I wouldn’t piss off a sober or drunk Nordenstam—but musically, they’re both. Utterly fucking metal and really fucking mean.
