Nothing says “Yonkers in the house!” quite like a shout-out to David Berkowitz—though getting one from him first makes for a better story, especially when he wills you into existence with it. Wicked King Wicker’s big bang came when the Son of Sam slayer dropped the duo’s name in a 1977 letter to New York Daily News columnist Jimmy Breslin. They responded by promptly becoming future zygotes and, later, peers of Blue Sabbath Black Cheer, Khanate and Skullflower. Sam knows, the actual 21st century entity would scare Mr. Repentant right out of his cell. But in his prime, WKW’s homie might have found their noise-encrusted doom a little too inspiring and traded his .44 for a bunker and a bunch of aqua regia. —Rod Smith
