What’s up headbangers? We’re thrilled to introduce you to The Official Soilwork Studio Blog, presenting you with weekly updates about the recording of the bands eighth album The Panic Broadcast. Speed and his cohorts will share their stories and thoughts straight from the studio, as well as their very own snapshots. For a unique look inside The Panic Broadcast, this is the place to be… Enjoy!
Being caught in a snowstorm feels somewhat appropriate when tracking a whirlwind of an album… Or maybe that’s just my semi-philosophical two cents, but the point of the matter is: we’re stuck here in Asheville, NC with a shut-down airport and only two songs left to record.

“We” is guitarist/producer Peter Wichers, producer/mixer Jens Bogren, studio technician Tommy Terrebone, yours truly and my wife Hannah who’s documenting some of our silly studio antics. Echo Mountain Studios are located in what once was a church, with beautifully spacious rooms providing a natural drum sound unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. A perfect start for what we aim to be our best production to date; ole’ stained glass Jesus here agrees!
But let’s cut to the chase: most of you are probably wondering what this Soilwork opus number eight is gonna sound like. Well, from the darkest and doomiest piece to the most extreme track we’ve ever written, and everything in between, The Panic Broadcast definitely adds plenty of new elements to keep things exciting! Peter, Sylvain and Speed really stepped it up when writing these tunes and fans of every Soilwork-era should find something to their liking. It’s definitely an intense and technical beast on drums -- I really pushed it on this on.

Anyways, we’re at the beginning of a two-month long recording journey and the puzzle has only just started to come together. But the general excitement upon hearing these rough tracks already speaks volumes about the good times ahead! If we get a plane ride home, that is.
** Soilwork's new album, The Panic Broadcast, is slated for a 2010 release on Nuclear Blast Records.
