So, this is where the scrutiny on High on Fire is supposed to get ratcheted up a notch, right? They’re on a new label, working with a big-name producer (Greg Fidelman, who worked on Slayer’s latest) and following up Death Is This Communion, an album named by this very mag as one of the best of the last decade. It’s not too unlike the situation Mastodon were in with Blood Mountain back in 2006. Mastodon arguably made the most of the circumstances and delivered an album that showed a dramatic progression without completely alienating their fan base.
