John Baizley's Debut Solo Art Show

What’s on your walls right now? Take-out menu? Boogers? Scarface movie poster? Tisk tisk. Man up, suckers. Get some culture! A little fine art will do you good. And by “fine art” we don’t mean a cheap poster of Dalí’s Surrealist diarrhea that you thought was “deep” while getting high in some kid’s dorm room. Get thee to Metropolis Gallery in Lancaster, PA, November 6–30th, for the debut solo show of Baroness lead man and painter extraordinaire John Baizley. Press release after the jump.

THE ART OF JOHN BAIZLEY November 6–30th 2009

As the singer/guitarist for the infamous rock band Baroness, John Baizley has toured the world over. Baroness has also released several critically acclaimed albums on the iconic Relapse label, home to Mastodon, Dillinger Escape Plan, Neurosis and countless others. John's lush artwork shows the influence of two major artists - Pushead, through his morbid subject matter and fine-line penwork, and Alphonse Mucha, with the graceful manner in which his subjects are posed, and the Art Deco scenes in which they are set.

November 2009 at the Metropolis Gallery will be John Baizley's landmark debut solo show, and will for the first time contain original works.

If you are interested in seeing a preview price list before the show opens to the public, please contact the gallery.

Everyone's noticed the phallus on the cover of the new record, right?

I believe the whole cover is about fertility. Eggs, pregnant women... look at the very top left and you'll see what appears to be swimming sperm. I have s signed Baizley print on my wall... it is an expanded 'blue' version of his Pig Destroyer cover for ~Phantom Limb~. Large and quite impressive. Picked it up at a concert.

I'd love to get my hands on either Baizleys or Paul Romanos art. Every Mastodon cover is better than its predecesor, same with the PD covers. Phantom Limb expecialy. I wish I could afford the trip out there.

Man, if any of his originals were likely to be in my college student price range, I'd have some new art this weekend. But they won't be. :( And is the phallus you're referring to the cracked open egg? It took me a LONG time to find, but yeah, it's pretty clearly intentional.

You won't get a Baizley original for less than $2000 these days. Something like the cover art for a record = $4500.
