Track Premiere: Soliloquium – ‘Catharsis’

Swedish death/doom outfit Soliloquium will release their second LP, Contemplations, in June via Transcending Records. If “Catharsis,” the first taste we have of Contemplations, is any indicator, the album will be the Swedish trio’s best release yet. The guitars sound fuller, and the transition between quiet, reflective passages with clean singing transition more fluidly into powerful death/doom.

“‘Catharsis’ is a song about mindlessly wandering on without a guiding light,” vocalist/guitarist Stefan Nordström says. “An agonizing hunger for more, combined with growing knowledge of life’s constraints and limitations. It was one of the first pieces of music assembled for the Contemplations album. Equal parts death/doom metal, newer Katatonia and melodic death, it represents the more contemporary side of the Soliloquium sound. It’s a good introduction to the rest of the album, and hopefully a piece of melancholy that you will appreciate.”
